All-Inclusive Resorts (FAQs)

What do I get for my money at all-inclusive resorts?

Your all-inclusive vacation price includes your room, at least three meals a day, land- and water-based activities and gratuities. The inclusion in the total vacation cost of alcoholic beverages, tours, entertainment, excursions, or more expensive activities such as scuba diving, varies by resort.

What can I do at the resort?

That depends on the resort, but all-inclusive resorts have a wide array of activities. You may wish relax on the beach or by the pool, sign up for scuba lessons, play a game of tennis or a round of golf, enter a talent show or get a massage. If a particular activity is very important to you, be sure to tell us about it so that we can confirm that it is available at the resort of your choice.

Is airfare included in my all-inclusive price?

Airfare is even easier to get now! Our site automatically looks for the best airfare for you to get to your all-inclusive resort of choice. You can also price the resort without air, in case you want to use frequent flier miles or happen to be an airline employee. The air/resort price includes connecting airfare, transfers between the airport and the resort and baggage handling. In some instances -- especially at the very last minute -- the resort-only price may be all that is available.

Will I need a passport?

You will definitely need proof of citizenship--all resorts now require it. Whether you will need a passport depends on your nationality and the country and resort you will visit. For U.S. and Canadian citizens, a certified copy of your birth certificate and government-issued photo I.D. may be sufficient for some resorts and for some country's airport customs. For guests of all other nationalities, a passport is required. Visas may also be required for all guests visiting the more exotic all-inclusive resorts. Your travel counselor can help you determine the documents you will need at the time of booking.

Is an all-inclusive vacation suitable for families with kids?

Not just suitable, they're perfect! Many resorts are now designed specifically for families, with kids-only facilities, counselors, daytime activities and nighttime baby-sitting. Children of all ages are welcome at most resorts. Check out our all-inclusive family vacations.

Are all-inclusive vacations suitable for single travelers?

All-inclusive vacations are very popular with single travelers, and many resorts offer programs to help singles meet and mingle. Some resorts offer single guest rooms and most offer either a single supplement rate for double staterooms or a single share program that places you with another same sex single at the double occupancy rate. A few all-inclusive resorts are for couples only and do not accept singles.

Are there departure taxes from all-inclusive resort locations?

Guests are required to pay an airport departure tax upon leaving most countries nowadays, including those where all-inclusive resorts are located. Your travel counselor can determine the existence and amount of this tax for you, at your request, at the time of booking.

Do I have to tip at an all-inclusive resort? If so, how much?

Tipping is generally not required at all-inclusive resorts because it is included in the total cost of the vacation, and some properties even forbid it! Employees associated with activities, sports or excursions that are not included in your all-inclusive package, such as baggage personnel, tour guides, golf caddies, etc., are customarily tipped. If you have questions about when gratuities are or are not included, feel free to ask your travel counselor.

Travel Insurance

An illness, accident or unexpected situation can arise before or during your all-inclusive vacation, causing it to be cut short or to be canceled entirely. Unfortunately, most resorts impose penalties for canceling a vacation, up to and including loss of all money paid.

Because most vacations are a significant investment for our clients, we recommend that you purchase some form of travel insurance to protect yourself from financial loss in the event of an emergency. Our travel counselors will help you find a travel insurance plan that meets your needs. Click here for more information about travel insurance.
