						Samana
Perched upon a series of bluffs overlooking the country’s northeastern coast is Samana. Coconut-covered mountains, lush rainforests and cold mountain streams run down to meet the sun-drenched beaches and turquoise waters of this peninsula. While the town’s sleepy rhythm makes it the idyllic choice for travelers looking to relax, it’s safe to say that adventure-seekers will never lack for activities in this eco-paradise. Horseback riding and ATV trails can be found throughout the mountains and beaches and rock-climbing is popular at Playa Fronton. Explore caves filled with petroglyphs and pictograms or head to the beaches for sailing and snorkeling. From mid-January through mid-March, Samana offers some of the most impressive whale watching in the world. Samana is a 4-hour drive from Puerto Plata where the nearest international airport is located. Flights are available from Puerto Plata to Samana’s domestic airport.
