Mexico WeddingsIf you're dreaming of a tropical wedding in Mexico, you've come to the right place! You can enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime event at a beautiful resort and with total confidence that your best day is in expert hands. Just imagine yourself on your wedding day relaxing by the pool with a piña colada while your own personal wedding coordinator efficiently prepares the entire ceremony. Sound enticing? Of course it does! Most of our recommended resorts in Mexico are prepared to handle every aspect of this momentous occasion, whether you desire an intimate, low-key ceremony for two or a lavish celebration with friends and family. (If there will be numerous guests in your wedding party, click here to read more about the discounts available when booking a group.) They provide all the necessary elements, from the perfect site for your ceremony to the bride's bouquet. Some all-inclusive resorts on our list even offer complimentary wedding packages with a minimum stay, which include everything you need for a fantastic ceremony. Of course, special upgrades and amenities are always available for those couples who want to indulge! But don't grab that piña colada quite yet! Advance planning and expert advice are essential for a successful destination wedding. Use our step-by step guide below to ensure your big day goes off without a hitch. Step One: Set a Budget Determine how much you and your fiancée want to spend on your airfare and accommodations. Most wedding couples stay for at least seven nights at the resort since the trip includes the honeymoon. Next, speak to some of your guests to determine what they will realistically pay to travel to your wedding. We recommend that you advise your friends and family of the cost of attending your chosen resort for a minimum of three nights. If you plan to supplement your guests' travel costs, be sure to factor that in. How many guests can you expect? Consider this: At the average wedding, 40% of the guests fly in to attend the ceremony and pay for car rentals, hotel accommodations and some meals. Attending your destination wedding won't cost much more, and they get a fun-filled vacation to boot! Of course, not all invitees will attend. Plan on 35% of your guests declining the invitation based on the cost. Some of our recommended resorts provide a wedding coordinator and complimentary wedding package with a minimum stay, but if you choose a property that does not offer a wedding package, our travel counselors will help you customize a ceremony to fit your budget. Step Two: Decide on a Destination Choose a memorable location for your special day, but keep your guests' budgets in mind-you don't want to discover after hours of planning that your dream resort is too expensive for your favorite friends and family. Also, remember that airfare represents a large part of the overall package price to any destination, so ask your travel counselor to check package prices from your and your guests' departure cities. Our top picks for hotel and resort weddings in Mexico are at the bottom of this page and have been divided into two groups. First you'll find the all-inclusive resorts, where lodging, meals and activities are rolled into one price. Farther down on this page, traditional hotels and resorts are listed. Step Three: Choosing Where to Marry-in the U.S. or Your Destination? You have two choices-you can marry in the U.S. through a justice of the peace (or equivalent licensing bureau) before you travel and conduct a purely ceremonial wedding in Mexico, which is by far the easiest alternative for Americans, or you can marry in Mexico, which will require you to meet its rules and requirements, such as minimum residency, fees, citizenship documentation, etc. Click here to see those rules now. Step Four: When to Book Airfares are not published until 333 days out so we are unable to quote air-inclusive package prices further than 11 months from departure. We recommend that you book 10 months before departure, or sooner--six to 10 months out is ideal. Within six months of departure, most resorts start to fill, and room and facility selection becomes limited. Deposits of $50-$150 per person are due upon booking when using discounted charter or bulk air, and final payment is due 90 days before departure. When using specially priced published air, full payment is due when the initial reservation is made along with a $100 per person deposit for the room nights. Final payment on the land portion is required 90 days before departure. Still have questions? Click here to see our comprehensive list of answers to frequently asked questions.
