Negril
The "Capital of Casual," Negril is a free-spirited resort town where anything goes. Located on the far western tip of Jamaica and an hour away from Montego Bay, this former fishing town was a favorite destination of American hippies in the 1970s. Attracting travelers then with a laid-back ambiance that continues to draw people today, Negril has been continuously rated as one of the top 10 beaches in the world by travel magazines.
The town's rugged cliffs and seven miles of silky white-sand beaches edged by translucent blue waters paint a dramatic picture, made all the more alluring by the relatively undeveloped landscape. Calm waters promise excellent opportunities for scuba diving and snorkeling, and other popular activities include horseback riding and mountain biking. Don't forget to take in one of Negril's spectacular sunsets, as the sun slowly dips into the sea from the westernmost point of Jamaica. Most Negril resorts are located on Seven Mile Beach.
