The 16-mile sandy peninsula of Placencia is home to sunlit beaches, mangrove forests and a plethora of active adventures. Watersports such as kayaking, snorkeling, diving and saltwater flyfishing are popular here; while the Placencia Lagoon is the perfect place to observe manatees, dolphins and rays. From April through July, watch for whale sharks during the full moons. Visit a traditional Garifuna village, plan a day trip to nearby Mayan ruins or simply relax in a hammock on the white sand beaches.
